Abstract

Background. Insects can contribute to food security; the FAO proposes this resource as an important pillar for the food of the future. Objective: To analyze scientific production on edible insects to understand current trends in this area of research and the gaps in knowledge. Methodology. A bibliometric analysis was applied, for which relationships between countries, authors and journals were identified, considering the period 2014-2023. Results. The author, journal and country with the greatest scientific impact linked to the study of edible insects were: Adámková, A, Foods and Poland, respectively. The most developed topic is linked to the analysis of food (feed), nutritional value, metabolism and animal experiments on diets made from insects. A projection of a scientific study aimed at food analysis and sustainability was shown. Implications. This work only presents information available in the Scopus database. Because it is a global resource, useful for the dissemination of scientific knowledge, it is limited to considering works published in search engines with a smaller scope. Conclusions. It was possible to analyze the scientific production related to edible insects and associated factors, showing the current trend on this line of research and its knowledge gaps. Areas of opportunity are visualized for the scientific community, as a strategy that contributes to food security.

Keywords
