Abstract

Plants generate compounds with antimicrobial properties that can be used to control different horticultural diseases. In order to look for natural alternatives for the control of Clavibacter michiganensis subspecies michiganensis, was screened antibacterial activity of 19 essential oils of which 6 were selected by their bactericidal activity. Oregan Lippia palmeri oil was obtained by steam trawling of two plants obtained from their natural habitats and the third was cultivated in the state of Sonora, Mexico. Antibacterial activity was elaborated by disc diffusion method at three different dilutions (1:1, 1:5 and 1:10). The vvariance analysis revealed significant difference (p <0.05) between the types of oils, among different concentrations as well as interaction between these two parameters in the growth inhibition of Cmm. The essential oils showed the best antimicrobial activity were the different presentations of Lippia palmeri, Thymus vulgaris y Cinnamomum zeylanicum The treatment of Lippia palmeri was better to inhibit the growth of Cmm in all doses evaluated. The oils that displayed antibacterial activity evaluated, represent an alternative for the control of bacteria Cmm.
